Psychometric Assessment of the Efficacy of Thought Management Interventions in engendering Wellbeing, Productivity and Leadership Acumen

Background: A person can hardly achieve beyond their mental capacity. This suggests the power of thoughts, and by extension, the human brain, the engine of thoughts. The quality of the brain determines the quality of thought, life, and ultimately the quality of inventions emanating from it. This is also what determines the quality of development in communities, states and nations across the world. It can therefore be argued that leadership is a product of thought management.
Objectives: This study aimed to ascertain the top ten thought management interventions in terms of effectiveness in promoting well-being, productivity, and leadership acumen.
Methodology: The systematic literature review research design was adopted, combined with ChatGPT ratings. The SPIDER (Sample, Phenomenon of Interest, Design, Evaluation, Research type) and PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) frameworks were adopted for this study. Consequently, twenty-six relevant articles were reviewed. Two of the articles reviewed were meta-analytical studies. One of them reviewed over 200 articles, while another one reviewed 494 articles that dwelled on the effectiveness of various psychotherapies.
Results: The ratings given the best ten psychotherapies are as follows: cognitive behavioral therapy (10); mindfulness-based interventions (9.5); acceptance and commitment therapy (8.5); dialectical behavior therapy (8); positive psychology interventions (7.5); metacognitive therapy (7.5); solution-focused brief therapy (7); rational emotive behaviour therapy (6.5); self-compassion training (6) and thought-stopping techniques (5).
Conclusion: The clarion finding was that cognitive behaviour therapy and mindfulness-based interventions were the most effective Thought Management Interventions, in terms of enhancing well-being, productivity and leadership acumen to date.
Unique Contribution: This study offers two key contributions: Firstly, it provides the first systematic, ranked synthesis of thought management interventions, uniquely combining comprehensive empirical evidence from meta-analytical studies with a large language model (ChatGPT) rating system to establish the top ten most effective treatments. Secondly, and most crucially, the findings establish the immediate necessity of demystifying and translating complex, clinic-based psychotherapies (such as CBT and Mindfulness) into simplified, accessible 'Thought Management' interventions. This accessible framework is essential for rapid scaling across the general populace and organisational settings to catalyse national development in well-being, productivity, and leadership.
Key Recommendation: We strongly recommend prioritising the development and robust experimental testing of a simplified, non-clinical thought management intervention (TMI) framework, derived from the top-ranked CBT and mindfulness principles. Future studies should empirically validate the TMI framework's causal impact on enhancing leadership acumen and measurable productivity within diverse organisational and community settings
